THEOLOGY @ THE TAPROOM | review and preview // May 22, 2007

Theology at the taproom is that monthly event where people gather in the upper realms of The Taproom at Brown’s Brewing Company to discuss great theological works of writing from our shared church history. Last fall, we read Dorothy Sayers’ book “The Mind of the Maker”. This spring we read St. Augustine’s “Confessions”. Our last gathering was this past monday. There are very few places where you can engage in great theological discussion via classic works of religious literature with a group of people you enjoy being with. Theology @ The Taproom is that sort of place. It’s always been a dream of mine to do something this and it’s been fun to see how well it’s been received at Terra. In fact, not only has it become an important part of the life of Terra Nova, but it has become something that serves others in the capital region that do not attend Terra. Some nights, there are as many as 5 or 6 people at TATT that attend other churches, or no church at all. It seems that not too many churches are encouraging theological discussion over a pint. (The Reformers would be so sad.)

So, the first year of TATT is over. We’ll take a break for the summer and return on the third monday of September with a study of Martin Luther’s “The Bondage of the Will”. I’m already looking forward to it. If you want to get on the list to receive a reminder email in September, shoot me a quick email to phil@terranovachurch.org .

FYI-I’ve also chosen the book for Spring of 2008. Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “Life Together”.
