Fall is here, hear the yell // September 09, 2006

It has always been my favorite season. The reasons have changed. The smell, the crisp air, the first visibly cool breaths in the morning. I love Autumn. (Actually one of my children was nearly named Autumn.) The sights remind me of the seemingly impossible truth of God that even in death there is immense beauty. The smells transport me to first football games of the season, to first season fires in my boyhood home or trvels that began one fall a long time ago.

The tastes of apples- crisp apples, the kind you can get only a few weeks a year- and warm cider donuts leave me salivating Pavlov style as soon as the season begins. We have already made it out to Indian Ladder’s Farms for the best cider donuts and early Macs.

Now, there is even back to school. The once dreaded day is a now a high holy day. I takes Thursdays off and it the hallowed day happened to fall on a Thursday.

So, summer is not officially done. That will happen in a few weeks with the Autumnal equinox. While i will wait until winter to hold my annual cosmoligial part-ay, there is so much i am ready to celebrate this autumn.

What is your favorite autumn moment?

I recommned apple picking, a high school football game and a game of a foggy sunrise in October.

Scott and I take a drive to Vermont and look at the leaves and talk about life.

Pumpkin patch in October, along with many trips to the apple orchard and hand pick those Jonamacs.
