Holy Week @ Terra Nova // April 21, 2006

What an amazing Easter season we had at Terra. From Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, Christ was experienced, mourned, and celebrated in relevent, powerful, and creative ways. I loved our dark and somber Good Friday service as we brought new life to the Stations Of The Cross through art work, scripture, meditation, prayer, and song. One of the amazing aspects of this evening was the over two dozen people involved. That is an amazing feat for a church six months old. Most churches our age are hoping to have that many people in the congreation period. You can view a slide show of the artwork created for Good Friday on our site at www.terranovachurch.org/video.

Easter morning was equally powerful. The contrast from the darkened lobby for the beginning of the service, to the bright energetic concert hall, brought freshness and life to the service. A huge thank you to Ty and Jerry at Pi Natural for creating the amazing floral art, Aimee Taylor and her team for designing the rest of the atmosphere, David “The Latin King” Mayfield for the Gregorian chants that reminded us of the beauty and truth of the ancient, and Father Michael at St.Paul’s Episcopal Church in Troy, for his liturgical inspiration. I’d also like to thank my record label, the Academy, all the fans…………….oh, and God…….

I loved the Good Friday service as well. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical when I found out we were doing The Stations of the Cross…it brought back memories of long weekly services at Saint Teresa’s in Albany; however, I found that it was very moving, and it redeemed a tradition that was long dead to me.

After talking to some of the people who were at the Good Friday service the general consesus was that is was very meaningful and unlike any other Good Friday service they have ever been too. It left them feeling confused which is exactly what we should have felt. I was proud to be a part of this time in our church history.

Scott, I tried to use the video link. I was denied access. I really want to see it, though.
