“good to be older, uh huh.
would not exchange a single day or year.”
~John Lennon
I remember getting an apple // one Christmas. It had a software tool called “the incredible jack.” that was the early efforts at software suites for users. it was the jack of all trades program.
I remember the 1984 ad as the athletic amazon smashed the screen of big brother and started the apple revolution.
Later i would move up to the MacSE and would spend my time playing with Quark Express and Photoshop.
the guys from cupertino who sold that first computer with the bitten apple logo for $666, actually made an amazing product.
The last time I used an apple was seminary. After that compatability made the use a nuisance. Now, I am back to the G5 and MacBook. It is a wonderful homecoming- though i hate that i have had to buy photoshop again…and will soon again.
I-tunes and the mac changed the way a lot of us do life. I think the attraction for a lot of people is the things “feel”. Clearly they left a mark. The saw a need for connecting computers with the way certain people thought and did life. The way the machine was designed, the human-computer interface, the research and development- was all a part of this company and its massive 30 year imprint.
In some ways the church is like apple. We make an effort to serve people’s need, we try to be intentional- in both being artists and engineers- in the way we do church. I think this reflects our maker (no, i am not saying Jesus would us an apple, though i am thinking it). He is both artist and engineer in perfect balance. The order of the created world and the beauty of the created world, dance and dovetail into planned perfection.
Happy Birth, Apple. Speaking of “birthdays”, while Terra began meeting for services in October, we actually had first public info meetings in April, 2005 (anyone remember 04.30 @ the arts center?). So, happy one to Terra…where will we be in 30 years? I don’t know, but i do pray that fresh ground with God will still be our passion.

I can’t seem to get over the fact that I got a bad taste in my mouth about Apple when my wife go into advertising and it cost us three thousand dollars to buy a Mac and she made 300 dollars for that whole year of advertising and then stopped doing that as a career forever. It just didn’t seem to pay off. I guess I need to redeem the Mac and let go of the past.
