Brian Hofmeister painting

Great opening on “Black Friday”. It’s an exhibit that everyone should see. The artists are Brian Hofmeister and mi Chelle Vara . Brian is a pastor at Christ Church in Guilderland. His beautiful paintings capture the essence of turn of the century (1900) architecture in Schenectady. Brian’s talent for blending colors on canvas makes him one of the regions emerging artists you have to see. And the abstract metal sculptures by miChelle interspersed among brian’s paintings make this a most interesting exhibit you don’t want to miss! It’s on display through January.

TN GALLERY ABOLITION/INJUSTICE SHOW | review from Sept 25th http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/10/tn-gallery-abolitionjustice-show-review-from-sept-24th/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=tn-gallery-abolitionjustice-show-review-from-sept-24th http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/10/tn-gallery-abolitionjustice-show-review-from-sept-24th/#comments Sat, 24 Oct 2009 16:14:17 +0000 Terra Nova Gallery http://www.terranovachurch.org/blog/?p=832

Terra Nova Gallery annual Abolition/Injustice show September 24th thru October 27th.
The Gallery had a successful opening last month with photography by Gina Meola and an exhibit about child sex slavery by Bethany Marcelle. Gallery visitors came away from this event pensively; you are left with a sense of the world’s injustice in your gut and a desire to do something about it. Not often have I viewed art and been so moved.
Responds Gina Meola when asked of her experience at the Gallery opening: “In my opinion, it isn’t so much the experience itself that matters, but what you take away from it and then do with it. This was an opportunity to push forward in my art, and share the core of why it was created – God’s call to love. I’m so grateful to Terra Nova for opening this door, and eagerly anticipate what lies ahead.”

New Show Friday October 30
Come join us for this month’s Terra Nova gallery opening on Friday October 30,  featuring photography by Ann Fantauzzi  titled Eyes to Namibia  and a painting collection by Carole Warburton titled Vanishing Barns.

WEBSITE REVISION | feedback wanted http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/05/website-revision-feedback-wanted/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=website-revision-feedback-wanted http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/05/website-revision-feedback-wanted/#comments Thu, 28 May 2009 14:27:09 +0000 Jason Gorss communication http://www.terranovachurch.org/blog/?p=707 Last year, Terra Nova received a great gift in the form of a brand new website. Now that we have lived with this site for the last 8 months we are ready to give it a few tweaks here and there to improve functionality. In general, we absolutely love the site, but there are definitely a few key changes that would really help. We’ve been keeping a running list of things we’d like to see change. We’d love to hear from you on this as well. You can post here, or you can simply email your comments HERE.

WELCOME TO THE NEW WEBSITE http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/09/welcome-to-terra-novas-new-website/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=welcome-to-terra-novas-new-website http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/09/welcome-to-terra-novas-new-website/#comments Tue, 30 Sep 2008 20:46:15 +0000 Terra Nova Church http://terranovachurch.overitmedia.com/blog/?p=358 You know that new car smell that everyone loves? This new website might not be equipped with smell-O-vision, but it does have a whole bunch of stuff that the old site did not, such as a band audio archive so you can listen to and download songs you hear on sunday, it’s got an improved sermon audio section, a full film archive (we’ve got a few bugs we are working out on that, but there should be a couple films in it at least for now). People at other churches will be able to view and use some of our graphic arts in their church. We’ve finally added online giving. Just about every section from the old site has had some sort of improvement, whether it functions better, or sounds better, or just looks better. Plus, many pages now have pictures on them that help tell our story. This is an entirely new site.

We showed the site to another web geek a few days ago and I think his comment summarizes things well. He said “Finally, we have a site that shows Terra Nova for what it really is”. We feel like this new site will better represent who we are as a church. If we are able to properly communicate who we are, and who we are brings glory to God, then this is worth all of the effort.

We need to thank a few people for bringing this site into existence. First, Kevin Richardson, a Terra Nova attender and designer at Overit Media not only put a ton of time into this site, but worked with his company in helping us get chosen as their 2008 Creatathon project (which means that we got this site for free). Jon from Overit continued to work on the site in his spare time even after the createthon was long over. All of the pastors pitched in to clean up or write content. Thanks to everyone!

We know that there are bugs on the site still. And probably some spelling and grammatical errors. Feel free to email them to us. We may already know about them, but that’s OK. Email your thoughts and corrections for the site to HERE.

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCH | still set for october 1st. http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/09/new-website-launch-still-set-for-october-1st/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=new-website-launch-still-set-for-october-1st http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/09/new-website-launch-still-set-for-october-1st/#comments Sat, 27 Sep 2008 20:22:23 +0000 Terra Nova Church http://terranovachurch.overitmedia.com/blog/?p=356 A quick update on the new site. It is largely done from the program and design standpoint. Scott Womer and I have been working overtime and then some to get all the content up and edited. There is still a fair amount of new content to upload since this site will be significantly larger than the old one. But we no roadblocks in pushing the new site live on October 1st, even if there is still content to be uploaded. Every time I log into the development page, something else new is working. This new site is really amazing and I can’t wait to show it to you all. So get ready for the launch on Wednesday Oct. 1.

A special note of thanks to Jon from Overit Media for working through the weekend to finish up the last few details. An entire community of people say thank you.

new website . . . in the works for Terra Nova http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/08/new-website-in-the-works-for-terra-nova/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=new-website-in-the-works-for-terra-nova http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/08/new-website-in-the-works-for-terra-nova/#comments Tue, 05 Aug 2008 19:01:42 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://blog.terranovachurch.org/?p=507 It’s hard to believe that the current website launched way back in the summer of 2005. Before we had a church, we had a website. Since then, the site has been tweaked, stretched, retrofitted, maneuvered, mangled, adjusted, added to, subtracted from  . . .  you get the point. Some of it looks dated already. Parts of it are flat out obsolete. Web developers take one look at it and cringe. It is showing the wear and tear of a church figuring out how it wants to use its online presence.

Almost a year ago, we started talking about a new site. Six months ago or so, we started talking specifically with a graphic artist at Terra Nova who works with a local design and development house. He suggested that we might be a good candidate for something called “Createathon”. Createathon is a nationwide project involving graphic design and web development companies. The basic idea is that they shut down for profit business for a day and turn their attention to not for profit projects. With Kevin as our spokeman, we were chosen. The net result is that we are going to end up with an amazing new site with some great new functions a much better navigation system and a completely new look. And most importantly . . . we are getting this site for free.  This is one of those behind the scenes projects that takes a ton of time figuring out a million details that all add up to what we hope will be a huge step forward and maybe even help create a little more community from an online standpoint.

Every word, graphic, file, and concept is being rethought. New files, jpegs, videos, text and more are being gathered up to be inserted into the new site. Kevin is working on the artistic direction already. Scott Womer and I met with Kevin a couple of weeks ago to see some preliminary design concepts of the site. And we continue to work on details. On the day of the createathon, those photoshop files that Kevin has been creating will be turned into html code, information and files will be inserted into the appropriate places and if all goes well, we will have a mostly fully functioning new website by October 1st.

To get a sneak peak at the art direction we are headed in click HERE. Many thanks to Kevin Richardson who has done so much work on this project already.

ONE BLOG TO RULE THEM ALL http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/04/one-blog-to-rule-them-all/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=one-blog-to-rule-them-all http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/04/one-blog-to-rule-them-all/#comments Wed, 18 Apr 2007 19:17:27 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://blog.terranovachurch.org/2007/04/18/one-blog-to-rule-them-all/ Welcome to the new Terra Nova Church Blog. Here’s a brief history of blogging in terra nova land. When we started the church last year, we knew we should be blogging and that it was an effective way to communicate with a bunch of people all at once. So we set up the “pastors blogs”. One blog for each pastor. And at first, we were pretty good about keeping up with it on at least a weekly basis. And people checked the blogs, and commented, and everyone was happy. Then, one or more of us would get busy, and blogging became a nuisance, rather than something we really wanted to do. So a month or more would go by with no entries. And people stopped checking the blogs. Then we realized that 1. It’s a pain to feel like you have to find something to blog about every week so that people don’t feel disappointed. 2. It’s a pain for you to check three separate blogs to see what your pastors are up to. 3. We’d really like to invite guests (other people at TN, other than just the pastors) onto the blogs to post things. For example, you will see a blog here about Tom Corey’s trip to Kiev to teach at a Seminary. In the future, you will see blogs about serving at Joseph’s House, various mission trips, art openings in the gallery, new initiatives at Terra. We hope that this new blog will become a popular place to keep up with the life of Terra Nova. Send your blog entry ideas to phil@terranovachurch.org . Enjoy!
