Here are 4 ways we are currently seeing a way to help – if you are interested in any of these – details on each are outlined below.
1.  Give Finances
2.  Give Blood
3.  Give Time
4.  Give Prayers

1.  Give Finances:  If you are able – please make a donation to Terra’s Benevolence Fund HERE on the City. 100% of the donations made between now and 11/15/12 will be directed to the benevolence and relief efforts at Jacob’s Well in New Brunswick, NJ.  Terra Nova will cover all the adminstrative fees and tax reporting.

Jacob’s Well is led by Reid Monaghan – who also serves as the New Jersey Director for the Acts 29 Network.  The men at Terra will remember Reid as he spent 3-days teaching and encouraging us on the men’s retreat this year.

As the New Jersey Director for the Acts 29 Network, Reid is coordinating relief efforts to some of the harder hit A29 churches & communities.  You can go HERE  and read a full update from Reid.

2.  Give Blood:  The American Red Cross has cancelled 100 blood drives as a result of this storm.  You view the CNN report on this HERE.  Our friends at Temple Baptist Church are hosting a blood drive on November 10th from 6:30am to 1:30pm.  You can also go HERE to search for other blood drives that may be in your area in the next few weeks.

3.  Give Time:  Several of you have expressed interest in traveling to NJ to help in the recovery work and rebuilding.  We are in contact with Reid at Jacob’s Well and other church network friends in an effort to determine when and where volunteer help will be needed.  As we know from other storms, the need for help will extend far into the future.  If you are interested in being part of a team of volunteers to go and put in some potentially hard labor – please email me, Pastor Paul Gordon.  We will start a separate City Message stream as we collect more volunteers and get more information from our friends in NJ.

4.  Give Prayers:  Lastly, please pray.  Pray that the challenges facing our brothers and sisters would ultimately cause many to turn to God for help and that the Church will readily respond with the mercy of Christ and the message of Christ.

Thanks and if you have any further questions, please let me know.

Pastor Paul

SNOW | church is on as scheduled http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2011/10/snow-church-is-on-as-scheduled/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=snow-church-is-on-as-scheduled http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2011/10/snow-church-is-on-as-scheduled/#comments Sun, 30 Oct 2011 10:27:58 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://terranovachurch.org/?p=3284 Here in Troy there is no snow on River Street and the local roads in were fine. Highways were clear as I drove in from south of Albany.

All church services will go on as scheduled. See you at 10AM or NOON for the fourth in our Marriage Series.

SNOW | sunday procedures in case of cancellation http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2010/12/snow-sunday-procedures-in-case-of-cancellation/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=snow-sunday-procedures-in-case-of-cancellation http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2010/12/snow-sunday-procedures-in-case-of-cancellation/#comments Mon, 13 Dec 2010 21:01:54 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://terranovachurch.org/?p=2786 With a bit of an ice issue this past Sunday, and plenty more winter ahead of us . . . you may be wondering what to do on a Sunday morning if it snows.

WHEN DO WE DECIDE?

Because we are a “set up and tear-down” church, we need to make the call by 6AM as the set up process begins at 6:30AM, with volunteers arriving all morning for various roles. Occasionally, this will lead to a bad call. We might cancel church, only to see things turn out just fine (It happened once). We might choose not to cancel church, but wish we had by the time everything is set up and ready to go. Please be patient and understanding as we make such decisions very early on Sunday morning.

WHERE DO WE ANNOUNCE INFORMATION?

If there is a definite cancellation, you will find a blog posted here, a status update on Facebook, and a topic on the City’s main group that everyone who has a City account is in. All of this will be posted by 6:30AM. You should also see it scrolling on the bottom of local TV stations.

HOW DO WE DECIDE?

Terra Nova is a regional church with people attending from three states and a 45 minute circle around Troy. We base our decision on the weather in Troy. It might be fine where you are, or it might be a mess where you are. If you can’t make it, that’s OK. Stay home, read your bible, pray with your family, make snow angels.

WHAT DO I DO IF I’M SERVING AND I CAN’T MAKE IT TO CHURCH?

Every team at Terra Nova has a team leader and that person is more than willing to provide you with his or her cell number. That is the person to call on Sunday morning. Double check now that you have the phone numbers you need so you aren’t scrambling on Sunday morning. Please do not send an email, or leave a message on the church voice-mail as we probably won’t get it in time.

Most of all, please be patient and understanding on Sundays with bad weather.

WEATHER | church is on http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2010/12/weather-church-is-on/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=weather-church-is-on http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2010/12/weather-church-is-on/#comments Sun, 12 Dec 2010 14:27:16 +0000 Terra Nova Church http://terranovachurch.org/?p=2780 While the roads were icy this morning as the first volunteers arrived at 6 and 7AM, there has been plenty of salting going on in Troy (I have seen them pass by Revolution Hall three times) and everything has turned to rain. So you should have no problem getting into church this morning. While your driveway might be icy still, the roads look good.

SNOW | but not that much http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2010/01/snow-but-not-that-much/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=snow-but-not-that-much http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2010/01/snow-but-not-that-much/#comments Sun, 03 Jan 2010 10:35:19 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://www.terranovachurch.org/blog/?p=933 Yes, it is snowing outside, but it’s nothing worth canceling church over. In fact, most of what is in the sky seems to just be blowing around due to the strong wind. Church will go forward as normal. Hope to see you at 10AM or 12NOON.

WHAT DO YOU DO | when it snows on sunday? http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/12/what-do-you-do-when-it-snows-on-sunday/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-do-you-do-when-it-snows-on-sunday http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/12/what-do-you-do-when-it-snows-on-sunday/#comments Sat, 19 Dec 2009 13:37:08 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://www.terranovachurch.org/blog/?p=894 With a big storm traveling up the east coast (not predicted to come as far up as albany) it seemed like a good time to address how Terra deals with snow on a sunday. In general, we only cancel church if it is really bad in Troy itself. The reason for that is that we are a regional church, we draw from as far north as saratoga, and as far south as Ravena. It might be bad where you are, but it might be fine for others. So, we base it on Troy.

Also, we have to make a decision by 5:30AM on a sunday since our first volunteers begin to arrive at 6:30AM. This might occasionally result in a bad call one way or another. We’ve only cancelled twice, one was a good call, and the other turned day turned out to be fine. There has been a couple days where, in retrospect, we should have cancelled.

When we do cancel, the first places it will hit will be the Blog, the Facebook Fan Page (search for it, if you are not already on it), and The City (launching January 10th). This year, it will also appear on local TV stations and web listings.

SNOW and CHURCH | 01.11.09 http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/01/snow-and-church-011109/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=snow-and-church-011109 http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/01/snow-and-church-011109/#comments Sun, 11 Jan 2009 13:15:05 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://www.terranovachurch.org/blog/?p=470 When I woke up this morning at 5AM, it was still snowing pretty hard, but the snow was so light that I did not even have to brush off the windows of my car — the windshield wipers did the job for me. It stopped snowing in Troy around 7:00AM. The Heavy Lifting Crew cleared the sidewalks on River Street. The City of Troy has been out in full force clearing the streets. They seem to have passed over River Street at least 5 times this morning-but if you are coming across the big silver bridge into Troy, I’d avoid looping around on Jacob Street since they seem to like skipping that particular little road.

So . . . our sunday services are on, and despite a little shoveling, it looks like it’s going to be a nice day. Hope to see you at 10AM or 12NOON.

SNOW SHOVELS | start your engines http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/12/snow-shovels-start-your-engines/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=snow-shovels-start-your-engines http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2008/12/snow-shovels-start-your-engines/#comments Sun, 21 Dec 2008 02:21:22 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://www.terranovachurch.org/blog/?p=436 It looks like there is more snow on the way tomorrow. Each weatherman seems to have a different story on when the snow will hit, but all of them seem to say “no big deal-it’s just snow”. The earlier ice predictions have been called off. At this point there are no plans to cancel the worship services tomorrow. It’s the sunday before Christmas, and snow will only make it that much nicer. That said, if you live a little farther away and are afraid to drive in the snow, we certainly understand if you feel like you need to stay at home all day. But your going to miss a great service with a full christmas choir singing with the band, among other things.

You can always keep an eye on the blog right here to find out any updates on weather issues and how they relate to any terra nova events.

SNOW, SLEET, FREEZING RAIN | and . . . no church http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/12/snow-sleet-freezing-rain-and-no-church/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=snow-sleet-freezing-rain-and-no-church http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/12/snow-sleet-freezing-rain-and-no-church/#comments Sun, 16 Dec 2007 11:43:15 +0000 Phil Taylor executive pastor http://blog.terranovachurch.org/2007/12/16/snow-sleet-freezing-rain-and-no-church/ snowblog.jpg It’s 5:15 AM and the news seems to be saying that while the actual snowfall is nothing major for a hearty northeasterner, it would appear that we are looking at a high probability of very icy roads because of the snow switching over to freezing rain for a little bit. So, while we are not one of those churches that cancels sunday worship at the drop of a hat, we are going to cancel today–largely because of the ice issues. We’ll see you next week.
