Brian Hofmeister painting

Great opening on “Black Friday”. It’s an exhibit that everyone should see. The artists are Brian Hofmeister and mi Chelle Vara . Brian is a pastor at Christ Church in Guilderland. His beautiful paintings capture the essence of turn of the century (1900) architecture in Schenectady. Brian’s talent for blending colors on canvas makes him one of the regions emerging artists you have to see. And the abstract metal sculptures by miChelle interspersed among brian’s paintings make this a most interesting exhibit you don’t want to miss! It’s on display through January.

LOVE 146 AT RPI | evening of performance http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/11/love-146-at-rpi-evening-of-performance/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=love-146-at-rpi-evening-of-performance http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2009/11/love-146-at-rpi-evening-of-performance/#comments Tue, 03 Nov 2009 21:22:55 +0000 Matthew Miller community extension http://www.terranovachurch.org/blog/?p=841 Rensselaer’s chapter of InterVarsity, the Rensseleaer Christian Association, is going to be hosting a Love146 benefit night on November 6. To call it just a “concert,” though, seems to do it not enough justice. This “Evening of Performance,” as it is being called, will feature the collaboration of over 15 student and Troy community groups truly coming together in the name of a good cause. Performers throughout the evening will include mainly RPI student groups, including the Rusty Pipes a cappella, Sheer Idiocy Comedy Troupe, RPI Step Team, Campus Serenaders Swing band, and many others (beat boxers, breakdancers, etc).

This night is bound to be a kid-friendly evening out with free food, raffles, DDR, and other games and activities. Open to all, the event will be held on the 2nd floor of the RPI Student Union, also known as the McNeil Room. Admission is free, though donations are welcome. Every dollar donated will earn you one raffle ticket. The event officially kicks off November 6 at 7pm and is estimated to last til midnight.

G3 | for college students http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/09/g3-for-college-students/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=g3-for-college-students http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/09/g3-for-college-students/#comments Fri, 21 Sep 2007 13:52:13 +0000 Guest Blogger http://blog.terranovachurch.org/2007/09/28/g3-for-college-students/ g3-logo-large.jpg
Trying to figure out how Christ and College fit together? g3 is not just another college club or group – it’s an invitation. An invitation to change – to be changed, by the Living God. To represent Jesus to your family, your friends, your campus. To love people, bringing heartfelt community into a lonely place, solace into suffering, light into darkness. To pursue passion and purpose in the midst of homework and heartache. To laugh, to cry, to run, to rest, to LIVE – not for yourself, or your parents, or your friends, or your career – but for something greater, something far greater than you can ask for or imagine. This is a quest to make your campus holy ground, – a quest which begins not with banners and trumpets, but in a quiet room, with uncertainty and expectation, as you dare to approach the throne of your Creator and listen for a still small voice that will change your world. This is g3. Will you come?

College Students: g3 prayer and information gathering on Sunday, October 7, after church (food provided) in the gallery at 409 River St (three doors down from Revolution Hall). For more information, contact Jonathan and Kerri Thorn, jonathan.thorn@uscm.org.

THORN FAMILY | tribeca summer project wrap up http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/08/thorn-family-tribeca-summer-project-wrap-up/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=thorn-family-tribeca-summer-project-wrap-up http://terranovachurch.org/blog/2007/08/thorn-family-tribeca-summer-project-wrap-up/#comments Sun, 26 Aug 2007 12:36:36 +0000 Guest Blogger http://blog.terranovachurch.org/2007/08/26/thorn-family-tribeca-summer-project-wrap-up/ topoftherockblogsize.jpg
If you weren’t aware, we were out of town for two months this summer – on a 6-week mission trip called TriBeca in New York City, and at the biennial Campus Crusade Staff Conference in Fort Collins, Colorado. TriBeca was incredible – 20 people decided to become Christ-followers, students from around the country took significant steps of faith in their relationships with God, an art exhibition sparked many spiritually significant conversations, and spiritual movements were started on several campuses where none existed before. I (Jonathan) had the privilege of guiding Carlos, who I met on Jones Beach in Long Island, in a prayer asking Jesus to be his forgiver and Lord. Kerri had a tremendous impact discipling Emily and Mallory, two students from North Carolina. We both enjoyed talking with people using Soularium, an image survey in which photographs are used to spark God conversations and inspire art.
The Staff Conference was a meaningful opportunity to worship and hear from God about our place in life and ministry. We heard from Donald Miller, author of Blue Like Jazz ; Chris Tomlin, a popular worship leader, and many others. We also began an important dialog about connecting Albany students with students and humanitarian activities in Africa. We’re exploring working with Crusade staff at Brown University to create a year-long experience for students which will combine campus-based “raising awareness” activities with local service opportunities, and will culminate in a 6-week trip to Uganda (and possibly Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, or Tanzania).

Thank you, Terra, for helping to make this summer possible for us through your finances and prayers!

Jonathan and Kerri Thorn moved to the Albany area last summer as full time missionaries with a college campus ministry and quickly got plugged into Terra Nova. They are currently working to build new venues of ministry on several college campuses via a catalytic model of campus ministry focused on developing student leaders. Each summer, when school lets out, their parent organization sends them to a specific summer project. The Thorn’s were assigned a project in Tribeca (NYC). You can read more about the Thorns here.

Pray for Jonathan, Kerri and Zoe throughout the summer, and welcome them back this fall.
