CHRISTMAS EVE | at Terra Nova Church

Our Christmas Eve celebration of the Incarnation of our Lord is a highlight of the Advent Season. Join us for this candlelight service on Dec. 24th at 5:30PM or 7:00PM. This is a great time to invite family and friends.

NOTE: On Christmas weekend, our normal Sunday Services will move to Saturday night (Christmas Eve) to free you up to serve your families on Christmas Day. On New Years Weekend, we wil only do ONE service at 10AM. No noon service on New Year’s Day.

GENEROSITY | special offering for Habitat for Humanity

On Christmas Eve, Terra Nova collected a special offering as we do each year. We enjoy looking around at the various ways that people at Terra serve in the community to find a place that we can designate this one-time gift. For Christmas Eve 2010, we chose to designate 100% of the offering to the Renn. County Habitat for Humanity.

Terra Nova and our Christmas Eve guests gave $1600 above and beyond the normal tithes and offerings and we have passed 100% of that offering onto Habitat for Humanity. Thanks for modeling generosity!

Join us at Terra Nova on Friday December 24th at 6PM in Revolution Hall for a family Candlelight Service. Invite friends and family as well! A special offering will be collected for Rennselaer County Habitat for Humanity. 100% of the offering collected will go to this great organization where many at Terra volunteer.

Advent Season has arrived at Terra Nova and we hope that you will take time amidst the shopping and parties to reflect on the arrival our Savior Jesus Christ.

For the four Sundays leading up to Christmas, we will focus on the historical themes of Hope, Joy, Peace and Love during our Sunday Services at 10AM and 12NOON.

On Christmas Eve, we will gather at Revolution Hall at 6PM for a Candlelight Service celebrating the birth of Christ.

Below, you will find some resources for Advent that Pastor Scott Womer recently posted on “The City”.

Historically, the four Sundays prior to Christmas are celebrated as Advent (literally “arrival”). Advent marks the time of Christ entering into our midst. This is a time to wait, reflect, prepare, and anticipate joyfully the birth of Christ. The Incarnation.

Each Sunday, we as a congregation will reflect together on the themes of Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. But I would encourage you to not only celebrate with your church family, but also take time privately, or with your own family, to reflect and prepare.

Here are a couple resources I have found that have been very effective for me over the years as Advent devotionals & readings.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TERRA NOVA [& church planting update]

This has been a great Advent season together as a church. Pastor Scott and the various bands of Terra have led us into worship well. Pastor Ed has taken the Advent themes in a new and fresh direction. Linda Womer did an amazing job with a short children’s program. Aimee Taylor and the Atmosphere team transformed Revolution Hall each week in a uniquely Terra Nova way. Jen Richardson created some gripping original art that was used on screen and in promotion for Advent and Christmas Eve (included below). You, the church worshiped in an honest and multifaceted way. We called you to contribute above and beyond your normal tithes and offerings to help out our two newly supported church planters and you responded to that vision so well. This week, we had the privilege of sending checks for $2700 each to Grace Road in Rochester and Focus21 (Axe21) in Quebec. I know that this is a huge encouragement to the pastors at these two churches. They truly feel that we are standing with them in the calling that God has placed on their hearts. Throughout all of it, we ask the question we always ask as pastors . Â . Â . “Was Jesus honored, glorified, lifted up, pointed to in all of these efforts.” I cannot help but feel that this is a resounding “yes”.

This sunday, we celebrate the fourth week of Advent at Terra Nova focusing on the theme of Love in the midst of the of the Advent of Christ. Join us at 10AM or 12NOON. Also, remember that this sunday December 20th is the final day to submit your additional contribution to church planting for Marc Pilon in Quebec and Kevin Maloney in Rochester. Use the envelopes that have been provided over the last two weeks, or mark a check clearly as “church planting focus”.

TERRA FILM MAKER | gets media attention, see links here

Lots were involved as extras this past Saturday as filmmaker and Terra Nova member Roman Jaquez shot one of the final scenes in a short film that he’s been working on for over a year. Using Monument square in downtown Troy as the the backdrop, several hundred people joined in for the filming. After the filming, many people piled into Meka’s Lounge. The new Martini and wine bar opened by a couple other people from Terra Nova.
